“Ravenswood” by Grace Andreacchi from Dogmatika is a poetic story set in a descriptive world. The story is told in third person in a far away voice. Morning comes and the reader finds a dead him (whoever that is). The descriptions of his death are strong and vivid. Then we go into a tower, where I believe is the ghost of the deceased.
I didn’t like much about this story but the descriptions. “A single leaf clings to his clay-cold cheek.” It was hard to follow and understand. There’s nothing for me, the reader, to grab onto and enjoy. As a prose poem this may be a very strong work, but as fiction it labors.
